KANSAS CITY, Missouri - Chrysler slasing 26 car dealerships. The Company said it wants to eliminate 789 dealerships by June 9. The motion said the dealerships sell too few cars and trucks, or compete with themselves.
It wants to have stronger, more profitable dealers with better facilities.
Treasury said trimming dealerships at GM and Chrysler "has given both companies a new lease on life," by helping prevent company liquidations.
The dealers likely will have a right to appeal to get off the list. The move could have a devastating impact on cities across the U.S., costing jobs and tax revenue.
