Seattle,Washington - Chrysler LLC wants to chop 15 Washington car dealerships as part of a nationwide move to eliminate 789 dealerships of 3200 by June 9. The dealers can appeal the decision announced by Chrysler in a bankruptcy filing Monday in New York. The company says sales are too slow to justify keeping all the dealers open.
Many car owners are curious as to what will happen if the dealership where they bought their car closes.
Chrysler said its dealer network "needs to be reduced and reconfigured in a targeted manner to strengthen the network and dealer profitability and to achieve optimal results for the dealers and consumers."
In Washington , 15 dealerships will be impacted with closings. More than 38,000 people nationwide- will be without work once the dealerships close on June 9.
Chrysler has received $4 billion in federal loans and has been operating in bankruptcy protection since April 30. Its sales this year are down 46 percent compared with the first four months of last year and it reported a $16.8 billion net loss for 2008.
