Connecticut--Chrysler LLC wants to slash six Connecticut car dealerships as part of a nationwide move to eliminate 789 dealerships. The dealers can appeal the decision announced by Chrysler in a bankruptcy filing Monday in New York.
The company says sales are too slow to justify keeping all the dealers open. More than 38,000 people will be without work once the dealerships close on June 9.
Chrysler has received $4 billion in federal loans and has been operating in bankruptcy protection since April 30. Its sales this year are down 46 percent compared with the first four months of last year and it reported a $16.8 billion net loss for 2008.
Connecticut Car Dealerships are among those proposed to be eliminated by the company. They include:
AMARAL MOTORS INC located in NEWTOWN, Connecticut
BOB'S DODGE located in NAUGATUCK, Connecticut
CREST DODGE INC located in WOODBRIDGE, Connecticut
EDWARD J WILSON'S SONS INC located in TORRINGTON, Connecticut
ENFIELD CHRY-PLY INC located in ENFIELD, Connecticut
FALVEY'S INC located in NEW LONDON, Connecticut
HOLLEY CHRYSLER DODGE JEEP located in MIDDLETOWN, Connecticut
